A Day in the Life of Your Otium Lifestyle Manager
People often ask us what a lifestyle manager actually does all day. The honest answer is: no two days look alike. That variety is the whole point. When you value your time as much as your success, the last thing you want is a rigid service that only handles one kind of request. So let us walk you through a fairly ordinary Tuesday, and you will see exactly what we mean.
The morning: reservations and a rescue mission
The day usually begins before the first coffee has gone cold. This particular morning, a client messaged at 7.40am wanting a table for six at a restaurant in Mayfair that had been fully booked for weeks. A quick call to a contact we have known for years, a friendly nudge, and the table was held by nine. That is the difference our little black book makes; it is not magic, it is relationships built patiently over time.
By half past ten, the focus had shifted to a last-minute gift. A client had forgotten his goddaughter’s christening that weekend and wanted something thoughtful rather than obvious. We sourced an engraved keepsake from a silversmith we trust, arranged the engraving, and confirmed delivery with a day to spare.
Midday: coordinating a house move
Life admin rarely waits politely in a queue. Over lunch, we were coordinating a client’s house move: liaising with the removals firm, confirming the cleaners for the old property, and making sure the internet would actually be working when the family arrived. Moving is famously one of life’s great stresses, and the pleasure of our job is quietly removing that weight from someone’s shoulders.
Afternoon: travel plans and a waiting game
The afternoon brought a request we love: planning a long weekend in Lake Como. We began mapping out flights, a lakeside suite with the right view, private transfers, and a dinner reservation at a spot that books out months ahead. Bespoke travel is one of our favourite kinds of work because the details are where the joy lives.
Meanwhile, back in London, one of us was on the phone with a plumber for another client, arranging access and waiting in so she did not have to take the afternoon off work. Waiting in for a tradesperson is one of those small, dull tasks that swallows hours, and handing it over feels like a genuine relief.
Evening: securing the impossible ticket
As the day wound down, a client called wanting two tickets for a sold-out West End production, ideally for that very week. A few messages to the right people, and by six o’clock the tickets were confirmed, along with a pre-theatre table nearby. There is a particular satisfaction in ending a day by making an evening special for someone.
The thread that ties it all together
What connects these tasks is not the type of work but the person we are working for. Your lifestyle manager knows you: your preferences, your quirks, the way you like your travel arranged and the restaurants you would never set foot in twice. You are never explaining yourself to an anonymous call centre. You have one dedicated person who simply gets it, giving you back the freedom to focus on what truly matters.
